Wike Threatens To Sack Education Commissioner.






Dissatisfied with the pace of work at the Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has threatened to sanction the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku.

Also, the governor announced that the state is ready to host thousands of lawyers for the 2016 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference.

Addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in the state on Thursday , Governor Wike regretted that the State Ministry of Education has failed to reconstruct the school, which is one of the pilot schools for the introduction of boarding schools in the state
He said that the state government has released funds for the execution of the project, without the expected results.


"I am sad at the pace of work in the Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta. Where will these children learn when schools resume in September?
"I am disappointed in the Education Commissioner. I have summoned him to explain the slow pace of the work in this school. We will not allow any official slow down the pace of development of projects ".
At the Diete Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, venue of the 2016 NBA National Conference, Governor Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done at the auditorium and the committee rooms of the facility.

He said: "Rivers State is ready to host the 2016 NBA National Conference. The Civic Centre is ready and we have all logistics and security arrangements in place ".
The governor announced that the NBA Law Centre will also be commissioned in the course of the NBA National Conference.

The governor commended the contractors handling road projects in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre local government areas. He also noted that the construction of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park is progressing as scheduled.
He also inspected the ongoing construction of the second Nkpogu Bridge in Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
