Senator Tinubu Empowers Widows With Start-Up Capital.

Senator Tinubu empowers 650 widows with N16m

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Tuesday has empowered over a hundred widows in the Lagos Island Local Government, Lagos . It was the 2016 Edition of Widows Economic Empowering Scheme, WEES, held at the council secretariat.

The event gave financial assistance to widows to enable them start a business.

Balikis Eshinlokun Sanni, wife of the deputy speaker of Lagos State, who represented Senator Tinubu at the event, said empowering widows will reduce the poverty rate.

According to her, “widows are important women in the society that need to be given support and care. They should not be disregarded in any way; the reason our loving mother Senator Oluremi Tinubu has come up with this initiative is to strengthen these women financially and reduce the poverty rate in our society.”

Hon. Nosir A. Musa, Sole Administrator of the Lagos Island West Local Government, echoed Mrs. Sanni’s statement.

“The programme is sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu for the economic empowerment of widows. We gave N35,000 each to the widows to start up a business of their own or to inject it to their businesses. The programme has been on for over two years now.”

Some of the beneficiaries also commended the effort.

Kudirat Adamson, 48, said she has been benefitting from the programme since it was launched.

“I have been participating since 2014 and I have been a beneficiary since then. It has helped me meet my responsibilities to my children. I am very grateful God is using our mother Oluremi Tinubu to help widows like me.”

Another beneficiary, Taiwo Moshood also lauded the initiative, referring to Tinubu as a woman full of love.

“ Oluremi Tinubu has continued to better the lives of widows year in year out. She is a woman full of so much love and I am very grateful to her. I pray God continues to strenghthen her to do more,” she said.
