“I cried when she told me that she brought me to Kwara for prostitution-Young girl narrates how her aunt sold her into prostitution.
When Blessing Ujah was young and living with her parents, her dream was to become a lawyer, but she never knew that she would end up becoming a prostitute.
Blessing Ujah, a 26-year-old was born and raised up in Makurdi which is the capital of Benue state in the northern part of Nigeria.
After finishing her primary school education, she proceeded to NkST comprehensive college in Adipo, Kwande local government of Benue state where she came out in flying colours in her O level examinations in the year 2011.
Blessing left secondary school as one of the best students in her school, and all she wanted then was for her to write JAMB examination and get into the university, but sadly for her, her parents were unable to pay for her JAMB registration which made her to stay at home for one year.
After sitting at home for a year waiting for another JAMB registration to commence, Blessing’s mother ran into a serious health issue which made her to miss out of another chance of writing the university entrance examination.
It took Blessing’s mother more than a year for her to recuperate, and being the only female child, Blessing had no choice than to take care of her sick mother.
After Blessing’s mother had overcome her health issue, the dream of Blessing to become a lawyer started creeping as there was no any major means of livelihood for her parents.
A closed associate of Blessing’s mother came around, and after seeing what Blessing and her mother had gone through, she decided to set Blessing up in textile business so that she would be able to cater for herself and her mother as her father had abandoned them.
Blessing started the textile business with the intention of saving big for her to be able to sponsor herself to the university since there was no other means of getting money.
Unfortunately, a group of area boys descended on Blessing in her shop at around 6pm on a Saturday evening when was preparing to close, and she was robbed and raped in which there was no one strong enough to confront these guys.
After the ordeal, Blessing became pregnant, and she eventually had a daughter in 2015 for an unknown father still yet to be identified.
In April 2016, Blessing’s aunt whose name was revealed by Blessing to be Gift Jeremiah came around to Makurdi, and after Blessing had explained the ordeal she has gone through, Gift told her that she would send her to university in Kwara state if she would follow her.
On hearing this, Blessing agreed and hereby giving her daughter to her mum who promised to take absolute care of the child.
Journey to prostitution
When Gift Jeremiah brought Blessing to Kwara state, she seized her phone and made sure that she did not communicate with anyone for a month of their arrival to Kwara state.
After a month, Gift Jeremiah told Blessing that she actually brought her to Kwara state for prostitution stressing that she it was dangerous for her to try to escape.
Since Blessing had no choice, she accepted to go into prostitution and Gift Jeremiah rented a room for her in an hotel and therefore placed her on close monitoring.
“I cried when she told me that she brought me to Kwara for prostitution, and since there was nothing I could do, I had to start the job.
“When I started this job, men used to rush me because of my beauty and the facts that I’m young, and in a day, the minimum of men that come to my room is 10.”
“There was a time I told a man after having sex with me that I’m not comfortable with what I’m doing, but he told me that there’s nothing he could do to that as the person that brought me is a strong woman,” Blessing explained to NAIJ.com in the hotel where she works.
Efforts to reach Gift Jeremiah who brought Blessings to Kwara state were futile as she could not be reached.

She also revealed that she pays the sum of N5,600 every week as payment for her room while 1,500 goes to the police on a monthly basis.
Regret and challenges
Blessing said the only regret she has is not being able to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer. She therefore advise parents not to allow their children travel to where they would not be reached
“I always cry anytime I remember my childhood days when I wanted to become a lawyer, but the dream now looks dead because I don’t think I can still make it.
“The only challenge I do have on this job is that some men are hard as they don’t ejaculate on time and this frustrate me a lot as I would have to return their money and tell them to go out of my room,” she said.

Speaking with the manager of the hotel which is in a town in Kwara state, Olaleye Samuel said he has been the head of the hotel since the year 2011.
“I have been the manager of this hotel since 2011, and many girls have worked and left here, and for now, Blessing is the youngest girl working here.
“The problems we do have here are many, but the major ones are the policemen who can storm here anytime and that of the area boys who might come to cause trouble,”. he said.
Meanwhile, all effort by NAIJ.com to talk to other sex workers who also work in this same hotel where Blessing works were futile as they refused for the fear of being seen by their families.
