Senate confirms Eko, Augie as S’Court justices

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Justice Ejembi Eko (Benue North-Central) and Justice Amina Augie (Kebbi North-West) as Justices of the Supreme Court.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees were confirmed after the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters presented its report to the chamber during the day’s plenary.

The Chairman of the committee, Senator David Umaru (Niger East), while presenting the report, said the curriculum vitae of the nominees were requested, received and examined.

The committee also examined the security clearance and other supporting documents provided.

He added that Eko and Augie were interviewed on their life, work experience, suitability, competence and integrity for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

The report read in part, “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to observe that these appointments satisfy the constitutional provision of Section 231(3), which stipulates a minimum of 15 years post-call experience to qualify for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
