Gov Ortom inaugurates Benue Civil Service Commission Board.
Governor Ortom today inaugurated the Benue Civil Service Commission Board at the New Banquet hall of Benue People's House, Makurdi.
Performing the inauguration earlier today, the Governor reminded members that their appointments were based on merit and cogent experience. He extolled the good leadership qualities of the Board Chairman, Prof. Jerry Agada and urged him to bring his long and meritorious career experience while in the civil service to bear on his new assignment.
Governor Ortom admonished the board members to see their new assignment as a call for service to the society and charged them to settle down immediately and begin the process of repositioning the civil service. He said the civil service remains a key player in articulating government policies and cannot be allowed to rot.
Speaking further, the Governor directed the commission to sanitize the payroll of civil servants in the state by fishing out ghost workers who have inflated the salary wage bill of the state abysmally. Ortom said the current wage bill of the state is unacceptable and must not go unwatched.
The governor charged the commission to look into the issue of redundant workers with a view of making them useful again and enjoined members to steer the ship of the commission with the fear of God, discipline, fairplay, equity and justice.
He called on civil servants to support his administration as he was doing everything possible to offset their salary arrears and better their lots.
Responding on behalf of Board members, the chairman, Prof. Jerry Agada thanked Governor Ortom for finding them worthy among many for the appointment he described as "the life wire of the state" and promised not to jeopardise the confidence reposed in them.
The Former Minister commended Ortom's efforts in turning around the fortunes of the state and promised that they will contribute their quota to the development of their dear state.
