New Tiv Paramount ruler to emerge on Tuesday
The Benue State government has announced that a new Tor Tiv will emerge on Tuesday, December 20.
Daily Trust gathered that the process for the emergence of the new royal father will climax between December 19 and 20 when the successful candidate will be expected to succeed the late paramount ruler, Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh, Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula who died in November last year.
Governor Samuel Ortom who announced the December 20 date after an agreement was reached at a meeting with kingmakers and contestants for the stool at the Government House in Makurdi, urged the Electoral College to deploy dialogue as much as possible in the selection process and to vote as a last resort, adding that the Tiv Traditional Council should first resolve the issue of who would produce the next Tor Tiv between the Ipusu lineage in Sankera and Kwande so that only contestants from one of the two blocs would vie for the paramount stool.
Prominent among the never-ending list of Ipusu generation contesting for the royal stool are a former Ambassador to Argentina, Barrister Chivie Kaave, a former chairman of Kwande local government, Chief Terlumun Akputu, a former governorship aspirant, Chief Shima Ayati and a Makurdi High Court judge, Justice Morris Ikpembese as well as former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Senator Daniel Saror.
