Poor Waste Disposal system in Makurdi/An open letter to the SSA Public Utilities ,Environment and Sanitation.

Over the years, Makurdi City has been synonymous with poor waste disposal. There is prevalence of haphazard dumping of waste everywhere in the city that one would easily think that the authorities are not doing much to solve the problem.
A concerned citizen pens open letter to the Gov's SSA Environment.

Sir,
LETTER OF COMPLAINT AND SUGGESTIONS.

Sir, I write to state my complain on the continuous dumping of waste in households and public places.

A situation which is clearly uncalled for. As a concerned citizen, I have taken out time to observe the increased dumping of waste in various areas of Makurdi metropolis thereby becoming an eyesore and posing as a health threat to residents.

Hon SSA sir, my worry is that we have bodies which it is their responsibility to handle these issues at various levels but have failed clearly to address them.

My personal experience with a staff of BENSESA who patrolled my area around May last year went like this.

The said staff came to my house asking for payment for the removal of waste on a weekly basis which I was okay with and then after asking him how legit this arrangement was he showed his ID card and receipts reassured me that there wouldn't be a problem. Fast forward to this day, I learnt the exercise lasted for only 3weeks.

I have asked residents around how they do away with their wastes and I was shocked at their replies. Some take theirs to the river, some dump it at T-junctions, some in gutters and so on and so forth.

My plea sir, is for something to be done immediately about this and suggestions are that designated areas be provided for such a purpose, researchers should work on recycling these wastes to generate forms of power and the elites should invest in such projects to help curb this for the benefit of all.

In conclusion sir. These are my findings and how best I feel Makurdi waste management system can be sane again.
