Why Ortom is after me- Suswam

Former Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State said he won’t mind going to jail if the infrastructural development he put in place was a crime that the Samuel Ortom regime is persecuting him.

Suswam spoke when he received no fewer than 2,000 supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Ukum local government area of Benue State into the opposition Peoples Democratic Party over the weekend.

The defectors who were led by a staunch APC chieftain and former leader of Ukum local government legislature, Hon. Thomas Mlanga, were received into the PDP by immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Gabriel Suswam.

Speaking, Hon. Mlanga described the APC in the state as “a sinking ship without a captain to control it” and advised those still in it to be courageous enough to leave the party, alleging that governor Samuel Ortom is at the moment considering another political alternative ahead of 2019.

Addressing the defectors, former Governor Gabriel Suswam assured them of equal opportunities in the party, saying the PDP is undergoing restructuring and will better be repositioned ahead of the 2019 general elections; recalling that throughout his days as a PDP governor, he made sure every section of the state was adequately developed infra-structurally.

He expressed delight at the level of enthusiasm shown by the newcomers towards the cause of the party as manifested in their large turn up and flayed reports that he had squandered and looted the state’s commonwealth and will soon be jailed, saying he still believes in the people and is not afraid of facing trial if working assiduously to better the lots of Benue people is an offense.

The former governor charged people of the state to continue to have faith in the PDP as it laid a solid foundation for development which he said is now being destroyed by the APC regime thereby causing some PDP members that defected earlier returning back in their droves.

In a remark, former Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, who chaired the occasion, advised Ukum people to be wise and never be tricked into the APC which he said has no agenda for the peoples well-being and advised Benue people not to lose their hope as PDP will equally bounce back in 2019 to revive the nation.

On his part, member representing Ukum state constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly on the platform of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Paul Biam, thanked God for using PDP to positively touch the lives of many Benue people and charged people not to waver on their support till change will come in 2019.
