Al-Makura Inaugurates Assembly, LG Commissions, Boards

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, yesterday, inaugurated the chairmen and members of the Local Government and State Assembly Commissions.

Also inaugurated were the chairman and members of Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) alongside chairmen and members of the Christian and Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards.

Performing the inaugural ceremony in Lafia, Al-Makura said the commissions and boards were cardinal to his administration’s development objectives as they form a viable vista through which government policies and programmes can be realized.

He stressed that the legislature, as a critical arm of government, is a strategic partner that ensures good governance in a democratic setting through their oversight functions, hence the need for the legislature to have appropriate manpower to help galvanize the activities of the legislators.

He explained that: “It is for this reason that, members of the Assembly Service Commission were carefully chosen to be manned by people with the needed pedigree that will assist towards the recruitment, training, promotion and discipline of the personnel of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for effective legislative duties.”

Against the backdrop of the need to reinvigorate the local government administration in the state, the governor lamented that local government administration in the state is a conduit pipe which has rendered the third tier ineffectual.
