Governor says Dogara is not in touch with his people back home in Bauchi.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara

Governor Mohammed Abubakar has said that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, is not in touch with his home state of Bauchi and therefore not in a position to speak on happenings there.

The governor said he was happy with Dogara’s “confessions” that he has not been visiting Bauchi because of his engagements in Abuja as speaker.

There’s no love lost between the governor and most members of the National Assembly from the state, including Dogara, despite the fact that they are all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Dogara had, for the first time in an interview published yesterday, said he was quarrelling with Governor Abubakar for not providing dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

But the governor said he was shocked to read Dogara speaking on happenings in Bauchi after deserting the state for long.

In an interview with Daily Trust, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, said they were now convinced that Dogara was the brain behind the poor relationship between Governor Abubakar and members of the National Assembly.

“How can somebody who absconded from his home state comment on happenings there?” he asked.

“We’re really not surprised because the governor has been saying for a long time that most of these legislators (from Bauchi) are not in touch with the reality and they’re not in touch with their respective constituencies. I’m happy the speaker has said this unequivocally.

“If the speaker and the rest of his co-travellers are in tune with what’s happening in Bauchi, they would not have the moral ground to criticize the governor in his effort to redeem the lost glory of Bauchi.

“At present, the construction of nearly 400 kilometres of road across the three senatorial districts of the state is ongoing; over 300 primary and junior secondary schools are being rehabilitated and work is ongoing at Gubi Dam to improve water supply in addition to hundreds of boreholes provided for the people.

“These are visible projects for all to see and it’s therefore disingenuous for the speaker to say there are no dividends of democracy in Bauchi,” he said.
