Alleged decay of FCT: Group makes 7 point demand from minister

In line with the earlier alarm over the alleged decay of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and the demand made for accountability, pro-democracy and advocacy group, Concerned Nigerians, has urged the current FCT minister, Alhaji Mohammed M. Bello to give a detailed account of the various infrastructural development he claimed to have carried out for the past one year in the FCT.In a statement signed by both its Convener, Prince Deji Adeyanju and the Secretary, Mr. John Danfulani, the group who, during a peaceful protest in Abuja on the 7^th of April, 2017, made a seven-point demand which included the immediate release of a detailed breakdown of money spent on security and rapid response security, improvement of the refuse disposal system in Abuja and the detailed breakdown of contracts awarded for the supply, installation and maintenance of streetlights in the Abuja metropolis over the last 20 months among others.

“1. The immediate release of a detailed breakdown of contracts awarded for the supply, installation and maintenance of streetlights in the Abuja metropolis over the last 20 months and payments made in furtherance of such contracts.”

“2. The immediate release of a detailed breakdown of contracts awarded for the provision of refuse disposal services within Abuja for the year 2016, and any payments made in furtherance of those contracts for that year.”

“3. The immediate release of a detailed breakdown of money spent on security and rapid response security services for the year 2016 and any payments made in furtherance of such contracts.”

“4. An immediate increase in the number of patrol vehicles and frequency of patrols in and around the Abuja metropolis.”

“5. The immediate removal of all beggars and street hawkers from the streets within the and outside the Abuja metropolis. This must include the removal of commercial motorcycles aka okada from all places in the city where they are currently being used.”

“6. The immediate execution of turn-around maintenance works on streetlights and traffic lights within the Abuja metropolis.”

“7. The immediate improvement of the refuse disposal system in Abuja.”

“We demand that these conditions be met within the next 7 days failing which we will be compelled to hold protests at night to highlight the decaying state of infrastructure within the city.”
