6,000 security operatives in Benue State for LG polls.


At least 6000 security operatives drawn from security agencies in Benue state have been deployed to cover all 3,691 polling units in the 23 Local Government Areas for tomorrow's councils’ election in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, made this known on Friday at a joint security personnel briefing at the Police Headquarters in Makurdi.

Makama urged the personnel drafted for the local government elections to maintain high sense of decorum in the discharge of their duty, adding also that their role in the election include: to provide safety for electoral officers, election materials as well as voters throughout the duration of the exercise.

He urged the security operatives not to take sides in the election, warning that any of them found participating in rigging of election results would be sanctioned.

The security personnel were drawn from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Customs, Prisons, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police, Department of State Service (DSS), Fire Service and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
