APC won’t be injured if Alao Akala leaves —Ajimobi’s aide

AMID some notions that former Oyo governor, Alao Akala, will soon return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Executive Assistant to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Political Matters, Dr Morounkola Thomas, has argued that Alao Akala’s political future was best secured if he remained a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Though he noted there were no signs to indicate such purported defection by Alao Akala, Morounkola held that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state would suffer no injury if the former governor decided to leave the party.

A former Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Hosea Agboola had last week hinted that former governor, Adebayo Alao Akala alongside former governor Rashidi Ladoja and Mr Seyi Makinde would soon return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Making reference to Alao Akala’s understanding of politics and his relationship with Governor Ajimobi, Morounkola, while speaking with Tribune Online, on Friday, said it would be inconceivable for Alao Akala to dump the APC for other opposition parties in the state.

According to Morounkola, the evidence of Alao Akala’s good relationship with Ajimobi was epitomised by the appointment of Alao Akala’s son as Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government.

He boasted that the APC remained the most virile party in the state and that it would be a political miscalculation for Alao Akala to move to either of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party (AP) or Labour Party (LP).

“I know Governor Alao Akala very well. He is a man of integrity and understands the dynamics of politics. He is a man that I know did his homework very well before joining the APC. He is in constant dialogue with the governor discussing about the progress of the state. One of the local government Chairmen appointed is Alao Akala’s son and he has other people in government.”

“I haven’t seen anything to believe that Alao Akala will see APC as not the best option. I used to be very close to him and I know that he understands that we have the upper hand and that it will serve his political future best to remain in the party.”

“I am not surprised about any political movement because I have seen the ups and downs of politics but I would not expect such to happen. I believe he will stay with us till 2019. But, if he decides to leave, I do not see it injuring the party. But it is best for Alao Akala, the APC and the state for him to remain in the party.”

“Where does Alao Akala want to go? Will he go to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? Will PDP be able to gather its feet again? PDP has wounded itself internally that I do not see the PDP recovering from its trauma. I know Alao Akala has a lot of information about all the political parties and I cannot imagine Alao Akala joining PDP.”

“Will Alao Akala join Accord party? Never. Will he go back to Labour party? There was no Labour party before Alao Akala. So once Alao Akala left Labour party, the party crumbled.

“Alao Akala has come to the party that will enhance his political status so I do not want to believe that Alao Akala will take an exit so soon. I don’t think Alao Akala will consider PDP more attractive than APC. No,” he said.
