Again, Fulani herdsmen invade Falae’s farm

Fulani herdsmen, again, on Monday night, invaded the farm of the former Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Olu Falae, with their cows, destroying the farm.

The herdsmen and the cows arrived at the farm located at Ilado village in Akure North local government area of the state, in the middle of the night, destroying maize worth millions of naira.

According to a source, the herdsmen, who were chased out of the farm by some security operatives who were on ground in the farm, said the cows had wreaked havoc before the security noticed the invasion.

He explained that the policemen drafted to the farm had to shoot into the air to drive away the herdsmen and their cows in the middle of the night.

Confirming the development, the Personal Assistant to Chief Falae, Captain Moshood Raji (rtd.), said the cows destroyed many crops in the farm adding that it was the police escorts attached to the former minister who shot continuously into the air that sent the herdsmen out of the farm.

Raji said: “They attacked Baba’s (Falae) farm again and destroyed the crops worth millions of naira and we immediately reported to the police.”

However, the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, during its meeting in Akure, Ondo State capital, condemned the attack and called on the Federal Government to check the activities of the herdsmen, especially in the south-west region.

Speaking on the development, the Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin said “we are aggrieved that the Federal Government has continued to turn the other eye while these Fulani herdsmen continue their murderous activities all over the country.

“We call on Federal Government to enforce law and order against these herdsmen while we called on the governors of the south-west to emulate the Ekiti State governor and ensure they put in place an appropriate law to deal with the activities of these herdsmen in the region.

“A 75 year old woman was gang-raped in Ore, in Odigbo area of Ondo State and the assailants are yet to be brought to book and also Chief Olu Falae, whose farm has become a sort of perennial attack by the Fulani herdsmen, only on Monday, came under a renewed attack.

All attempts to speak with the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, to confirm the attack were not successful.
