Buhari needs to be rescued from those around him —Shehu Sani
Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, on Friday, in Osogbo said President Muhammadu Buhari should be rescued from some elements around him who do not share his values.
He spoke at the second annual lecture organised by the management of Rave FM, a private radio station in Osogbo, to commemorate the establishment of the station.
“The president needs to be rescued from elements in his government whose activities are antithetical to what he stands for. He needs not just prayers but also proactive support to be able to address the weaknesses in his government.
“You cannot know who is a sinner or a saint in this government of change until the government leaves power. It was until Goodluck Jonathan left office before Nigerians knew what was happening in that government.
“Sardauna, Aminu Kano, Tafawa Balewa fought corruption through their exemplary conduct in public office. They never announced that they were fighting corruption. But what do we have now? The difference between today’s saints and sinners is that while the sinners have 200 houses, the saints have 100. The corruption that we know today is the one which is made public,” he said.
While asking for vigilance of Nigerians in the monitoring of government activities, the senator lamented that “big names in activism have left the streets for Charlie Boy and others. Those who are supposed to speak truth to power are playing politics of expediency. We have left Egypt but we are not yet in the Promised Land,” he said.
On the 2019 elections, Sani said all parts of the country must be given a sense of belonging, adding that “if the South West does not insist on a concrete written agreement by 2019, you will be on your own in 2023.
“Today, Atiku has moved. That does not mean that others are happy. People who helped enthrone this government have not been appreciated. Even simple courtesy has not been extended to them…If today the Lion of Adamawa has moved out and the Lion of the Lagoon is grumbling… then know that there are challenges ahead. Many who voted in 2015 won’t vote in 2019,” he declared.
Dignitaries at the lecture included Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Dr Yemi Farounbi, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Adelani Baderinwa, who represented Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Saturday Tribune Editor, Mr Lasisi Olagunju and former Editor-InChief of the Tribune titles, Mr Folu Olamiti, among others.
