NIGERIA'S RE-ELECTION TO UNHRC: NHRC CONGRATULATES FG
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has congratulated the Federal Government for Nigeria's re-election into the United Nation's Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for a three year term (2018 - 2020).
The Acting Executive Secretary, of the Commission Mrs. Oti Ovrawah who gave this message declared that the re-election is a clear affirmation of Nigeria's International standing and a vindication of goodwill that the country enjoys among comity of nations.
Mrs. Ovrawah recalled that the NHRC was reaccredited as 'A' status institution in December 2016, by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). She said that Nigeria's re-election into the UNHCR is a testimony of her compliance with international and regional human rights obligations.
The Acting Executive Secretary used this medium to urge Nigerians for continued support for its mandate of promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in the country for the sustenance of this level of global acclamation.
She noted that the UNHRC is the highest intergovernmental body in the UN system for matters relating to the protection and promotion of human rights, adding that Nigeria has remained an influential voice in the UNCHR since its establishment in 2006.
