Killing Of Army Colonel,Soldiers Storm Sati-Agirigi,Unleash Mayhem On Community.

Soldiers from the Nigerian Army unleashed mayhem at Sati-Agirigi settlement area located along Katsina-Ala/Takum road in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State as they burnt down more than 20  houses in reprisal for the reported death of  their colleague.

Their colleague  reported to be an army Colonel, according to eyewitnesses was driving towards Takum area in neighbouring Taraba State when he reportedly ran into a thick roadblock mounted by a gang of heavily armed gunmen who on sighting him, opened fire and shot him dead.

The  colleagues of the deceased from Takum, on hearing about the brutal killing of their man, mobilised their men for a reprisal attack in the area burning down the houses of innocent locals.

Though  Benue state  Governor,  Samuel Ortom, in a swift reaction confirmed the incidence. He also condemned the attack which he linked to an armed robbery attack.

Ortom said when he got wind of the incident, he quickly directed his Security Adviser, the Commissioner of Police as well as men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, to move to the scene to ensure the return of peace, adding that there was no cause for alarm as security operatives were on top of the situation.

But eyewitnesses from the area said the area worse hit was the Federal Low Cost and Tomataan locality where hordes of residents, including women and children have fled their homes due to alleged unwarranted harassment by the army personnel.

According to reports, the action of the army officers made movement into Takum from Katsina-Ala absolutely difficult as the soldiers had mounted barricades on the highway to restrict influx of human and vehicular traffic.

The soldiers were reported to have retreated after unleashing the carnage on the community.
