Queen Amina old girls to support Almamata with chairs, laboratory equipment

Queen Amina College Kaduna Old Girls Association has pledged to support the Kaduna state government on its ongoing effort at modernizing the college for effective teaching and learning.
The association made the pledge after going round the college to assess ongoing renovation works being executed by the state government.
The convener of the association, Amina Faruk, said the state government had given the college a face-lift under its schools modernization programme.
Faruk nonetheless, noted that there was much that still need to be done, noting that providing quality education should not be left to the government alone.
She said: “We are passionate about Queen Amina College, so we gathered here today to take a look at the state of the college, see what the government is doing and decide what we can also do to support it.
“We have particularly noticed that the hall and the dining hall have no chairs; the infirmary has no sufficient drugs; and the laboratories need additional equipments.
“As old girls of the college, we want to do something about these as part of our support to the state government’s effort to improve quality and standard in the college.”
Also speaking, Hajiya Bariyatu Yusuf, the state’s Head of Service, who graduated from the college in1979, said that the old girls were being mobilized to raise funds to support the college.
She said: “We have tasked all our members to contribute certain among of money with which we can contribute to the upgrading of the school.
“Not only that, we are also going to improve the condition of our various hostels while we were student of the college to ensure that the students are comfortable.”
The Principal of the College, Mrs Larai Siman, commended the old girls for making effort to give back to the college.
She said that the college was in a deplorable state before it was renovated and modernised by the state government.
According to her, Gov Nasir El-Rufa’i is doing a remarkably job in the ongoing modernization of schools in the state, adding that the support from the old girls would go along way in ensuring standard in the college.
She said that the college, established in 1940 and formerly known as Queen of Apostles’ College, currently has about 3,000 students.
Speaking earlier Kaduna state Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Sani, said the state government believe that to get quality education, the dearth of infrastructure must be addressed.
