Benue killings: Nigerian Army starts Operation Cat Race in North Central

THE Nigerian Army will commence the exercise it code-named, “Operation Cat Race” in the North Central zone of the country this week to tackle the issue of farmers/herdsmen crisis.
Recruits undergo training at the headquaters of the Depot of the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State in northcentral Nigeria, on October 5, 2017.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina in a video he released after the weekly security meeting which was chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

Adesina in the video said, “The Security Council meeting has just been concluded chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari and all the security chiefs in attendance.

“Of course, the issues that came under discussion include the farmers/herdsmen crises in different parts of the country. Cattle rustling, arm banditry, anything that constitutes security challenge was discussed and the intention was tackle all these issues in different parts of the country.

“The exercise by the Nigerian army called Operation Cat Race has been announced and it takes off later this week in the North Central zone. It is expected that this will bring under control to a large extent the issues of farmers and herdsmen crisis and other ancillary security challenges in that zone.

“This once again has confirmed the fact that President Buhari is not just sitting pretty to quote him in an air conditions offices and air conditions homes and doing nothing about the security challenges, he is up and doing about it.”
