In Idemili north, 380 delegate elect Hon. Linus Okafor through consensus.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the conclusion of the exercises in Idemili North/South that produce Linus Okafor of the North and Chief Sunday Nwoyeka south as chairmen respectively in the country home of the Labour and productivity Minister, Senator Chris Ngige, the INEC Officer, Mr. Ayeles Tope, when asked on the election process, he said “INEC does not have anything to do with the party congress. We are not concerned with the conduct, but we are only monitoring the exercise. It is a party affair and not INEC matter. INEC can’t stop the conduct of the Congress, it is not our affair. We are just observing and that the election was peaceful.
The elected Chairman of Idemili south local government, Chief Sunday Nwoyeka, commended the APC members for their cooperation and the impressive turnout for the exercise, which was witnessed by INEC officials, Department of State Security (DSS) and policemen.
Similarly, Senator Chris Ngige, who urged the party faithful to work hard to ensure that President Mohammadu Buhari returns back in 2019 elections to complete the good work he has started in the south east, south south regions, such as the construction Onitsha-Enugu expressway, Lagos- Ibadan expressway, Aba-Port Harcourt Road and the ongoing Second Niger Bridge on his part, described the local government congress as successful, saying that the development provided the opportunity for APC members to elect new executives for the party at the local government level.
He stated “I commend our members for coming out en masse in this democratic exercise for the smooth and peaceful conduct. Therefore, this exercise is the right step in the right direction that would lead our party to victory come 2019.APC remains the only hope of the people of Anambra State and the entire Ndi- Igbos at the moment”.
In Nnewi North local government area, the congress had 27 consensus candidates including physically challenged elected unopposed into the council executive.
The consensus was after verification and harmonization of list of candidates for the election that took place at Anaedo Social Club of Nigeria premises.
In the list of the elected 27 candidates signed by the APC stakeholders in the council area like the party’s National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu; Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2017 election in the State, Mr Dozie Ikedife; Sir Francis Omo Okeke; Hon J.C. Okeke and Engineer Osy Anazodo, Sir Tony Atuenyi emerged chairman and Innocent Orizu, secretary.
Others include Engineer Emeka Okeke, publicity secretary; Christopher Okoli, financial secretary and Samuel Ofodeme, treasurer.
A representative of the INEC, Barr Owelle .E. C. signed the list while other officials who gave their names as Ralph Nwike, Onyido ThankGod and Samuel Chukwujana also signed the list as members of State Congress committee.
There was a reasonable turnout at the election that lasted between 2:25 pm and close to 5:00 pm.
In the election, 150 delegates elected Sir Atuenyi as a consensus candidate, the secretary polled 140 votes without opposition, among others. The Congress also elected Mr Amobi Okonkwo to represent the physically challenged in the council area party executive
