Fayose instigating violence ahead Ekiti gov election ―Adeyeye

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of instigating the resurgence of violence and killings ahead of the governorship election taking place in the state next month.

The former Minister of State for Works made the allegation in a statement issued on Monday by Mr Omoniyi Ojo, the Director of Media of his campaign organisation, PAAM.

Adeyeye said the governor should be held responsible for the destruction of the billboards and other campaign materials of the APC candidate in the governorship election, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

Reacting, however, Governor Fayose said the inordinate governorship ambition of Adeyeye and his shocking defeat at the PDP governorship primary was responsible for his unguarded statements against his administration.

Fayose, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said it was unfortunate that Adeyeye has become totally blinded to know the current political realities in the state.

Advising him to wake up, Fayose further said the former minister and his cohorts would never be able to take the people of the state for fools “as the people would never board a ship heading for destruction”.

The former minister accused Fayose of been known for violent acts in the past and alleged that he has been heating up the polity by issuing threatening statements against perceived enemies of his administration.

Adeyeye, who recently defected from PDP to APC, further alleged that the governor has gagged traditional rulers and sacked civil servants and political appointees who were perceived to be supporting the opposition in the state.

He however assured that peace would return to the state and that the PDP administration would be sent packing from office after July 14 governorship election.

“Victory is assured for APC on July 14. The victims shall be restored to their various stations immediately after the election. The Pharaoh that you see today, you shall see no more,” he said.

Adelusi, in the statement, said, “Is it not laughable when Adeyeye alleged that Governor Fayose and PDP were in killings and destruction of billboards?

“The June 1 incident when Adeyeye and APC leaders were shooting themselves at their secretariat is still fresh in people’s memory. This is not to talk of the killings that characterised Dr Kayode Fayemi’s tenure from 2010 to 2014.

“They have been going around the state and the poor reception being accorded them has led them to vent their anger on Professor Kolapo Olusola’s billboards and campaign vehicles in many parts of Ekiti State.

“We know Adeyeye is a prince and is he saying if he were to be a royal father he would never have a mind of his own? Will he be gagged? Royal fathers in Ekiti are true leaders of their people. They are not beggars and no amount of blackmail can stop them from saying their minds. One wonder the grudge Adeyeye has against our monarchs that he has resorted to calling them names.”

Fayose, therefore, advised Adeyeye to stop daydreaming, adding, “We know he was dazed by the loss of our party’s ticket to Professor Olusola. But for how long will Adeyeye continue to sulk?

“Part of the reasons he lost the governorship ticket was because he failed to know political realities and how to key in. One can only hope that he would eventually learn his lessons.”
