Senator Abaribe released by DSS

Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe

The Senator representing Abia South senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe has been released from detention.

The Department of State Services, DSS, arrested outspoken critic of the Buhari administration yesterday without disclosing reasons for his arrest.

The arrest was widely criticised by a cross section of Nigerians.

The South-East and South-South Network (SESSNet) yesterday demanded the immediate release of the Abia Senator.

The group after an emergency meeting in Abuja following the Gestapo-style arrest and invasion of the home of the Senator from Abia State advised President Muhammadu Buhari to stop operating like an ‘Emperor’ in a democratic system of government.

SESSNet demanded that President Buhari orders his goons at the Department of State Security, DSS, to release Senator Abaribe with immediate effect.

“If Senator Abaribe has committed any crime, the DSS should follow laid down procedures and not operate as if Nigeria is a Banana Republic without the rule of law”, the Group stated.

“We know that Abaribe’s arrest is part of a plot by the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration led by President Muhammad Buhari to clampdown on the outspoken Senator Abaribe because of his constant criticism of this administration.”

“We advise Mr. President to henceforth stop operating like an emperor in a civilian system of government so as not to plunge the country into an irreversible crisis”, SESSNet concluded
