2019: Don’t contest any elective position, youths tells Ngige
Chris Ngige, Labour Minister
THE youths in Anambra State under the umbrella of “Youths for Credible Democrats of Nigeria” (YOCDON), has commended Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, former governor of Anambra State, former senator for Anambra Central and current minister in the federal ministry of labour and employment and productivity for his political antecedents, with a call on the former governor to sheath his 2019 senatorial ambition for his own good and the good of Anambra people.
In a communiqué signed by the group’s National President, Comrade Okeke Godwin Chinemelu (Esq) and issued at the end of a quarterly meeting of the group in Ogidi, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday, the youths told the Hon. Minister that his efforts and assistance to Anambra people through his office have been noteworthy; and thus, should not venture into the 2019 senatorial race to avoid disappointing himself and his people.
“We want to use this platform to urge our dear brother, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, not to run for the Anambra Central Senatorial race in 2019 to avoid the unfavourable consequences.
“Senator Victor Umeh is already at the red chambers and is doing tremendously well. Anambra would want Umeh to be there beyond 2019 because of some strategic reasons. In just few months, Umeh has made the voice of the people heard ever than before.“Information we got is that Mr. President promised Dr. Chris Ngige Senate President. We also gathered that Mr. President promised Sulivan Chime and Rochas Okorocha that same position. Remember that in 2015, Mr. President and APC had their own choice candidates for Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives but they lost to popular choices.
“If you run and fail, Anambra shall lose the slot and the gains accruing from the office you are occupying presently. The president can promise you Senate President but cannot guarantee you victory at the polls, especially in a state like Anambra,” the communiqué read.
