EFCC set to arraign Chieshe and others for diverting JAMB funds
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign some officials who allegedly siphoned N100m belonging to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
Prominent amongst those arraigned is Philomina Chieshe who claimed that a snake swallowed N36 million, which was part of the proceeds for the sale of scratch card in the card.
Others arraigned inc,ude Mr. Samuel Umoru, who Chieshe said instructed her to divert the money, Tanko Labaran, the Nasarawa office’s clerk who was unable to account for N23 million; and Yakubu Jakada of the Kano office who was unable to account for N20 million.
In a statement to the EFCC, Chieshe said: “I withdrew this money (from the bank and) the coordinator used it for the office and some time for himself (sic).”
She further claimed that it wasn’t unusual for Umoru to with draw the money for himself, and she had warned him on several occasions to desist from doing such.
According to The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, JAMB had,for the first time, remitted N5bn to the government’s coffers. The most previously was N4 million.
