The journalism fraternity in Nigeria is in mourning with the death Saturday morning of the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State Council, Comrade David Ukuma.
He died at about 5:00am at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi. He was ill for few days.
The Chairman was elected on July 3 this year.
Late Ukuma worked in the state’s owned broadcasting station, Radio Benue where he anchors “Issues of the Moment.”
The state Governor Samuel Ortom commiserated with the entire media community across the country and the NUJ, particularly in Benue over the death of its chairman.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said the governor described Ukuma’s demise as painful, not only to his family and NUJ but also to the state at large.
The General Manager, Benue Publishing Corporation, Anza Philips was philosophical of Ukuma in his Facebook timeline “the fall of a dry leaf to the ground is a warning to the green ones.”
