Maintain status-quo, court orders Benue Assembly.

A Makurdi high court has granted an exparte order, restraining the Speaker of the Benue state house of assembly, Mister Titus Uba and five others from carrying out any legislative sitting and responsibilities, pending the determination of the substantive suits.

Justice Theresa Igoche who had earlier restrained the impeached Speaker, Mister Terkimbi Ikyange, while ruling on a separate motion exparte brought by Mister Ikyange on Monday rule that, all parties to the suits, must maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suits.

The motion exparte became necessary according to counsel to plaintiffs, Mister Mike Osuman SAN, because of the adjourned date of 15th August, which the lawmakers on their last sitting on July 10th, 2018 at plenary, agreed to reconvene the house, before the twenty two lawmakers moved for the impeachment of Mister Terkimbi Ikyange and his principal officers on July 24th.

The substantive suit is also adjourned to 15 August by the presiding judge for ruling on a number of prayers, including the motion seeking to partially restrain Mister Ikyange as speaker of the state assembly, haven been impeached by the twenty two lawmakers in the thirty member assembly.
