Over 70 percent vehicles on Benue roads are not registered-BIRS Boss
***As BIRS Commences Inspection of Vehicle particulars, Licences
The Acting Executive Chairman of Board of Internal Revenue Services (BIRS), Mr Terzungwe Atser has disclosed that majority of vehicles plying Benue roads are not registered.
He however, regretted that majority of vehicle owners or drivers in the state do not posses valid drivers license or are not licensed to drive.
Mr. Atser who stated this in Makurdi when he led a team of BIRS staff, officials from of Vehicle Inspection Officials (VIO), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police on the inspection and enforcement exercise in Makurdi town said operation will be sustained until all vehicles are registered with government according to the law.
He also explained that the exercise is to ensure that all vehicles plying the roads in Benue State are duly registered
At the commencement of the exercise in North Bank area Otukpo road in Makurdi the State capital, Mr Atser said it began yesterday in Otukpo and would cover the 23 three Local Government Areas of the state.
He further explained that the exercise will enable car owners to secure their vehicles and authenticate ownership.
The BIRS Chairman therefore appealed to vehicle owners to visit the corporate headquarters of the service for the registration of their cars.
