Herdsmen sacked five Benue LGAs, killed 560 in eight months – Ortom
The figures were contained in a statement on Friday by Ortom’s Special Adviser on Media and ICT, That Agerzua.
The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday said 560 people had so far lost their lives to attacks by Fulani herdsmen over the past eight months in the state.
The figures were contained in a statement on Friday by Ortom’s Special Adviser on Media and ICT, That Agerzua.
The governor said half of five local government areas in the state had been sacked by the herdsmen in the eight months under review, calling for improved security in the state.
The affected local government areas are Makurdi, Gwer West, Guma, Logo and Kwande.
He said the attacks on several communities across the state were beyond grazing crisis but rather the continuation of the 1804 conquest and the occupation agenda of Jihadists.
The statement said: “Governor Samuel Ortom revealed that more than 560 people had been killed by Fulani herdsmen while half of Gwer West, Makurdi, Guma, Logo and Kwande local government areas have been sacked by the attackers since January, 2018.
“The governor appeals to other aspirants to shun violence as they solicit the mandate of the people, because peace should be the ultimate desire of everyone.”
