Akume, Lawani, Orubibi, pick Benue APC senatorial tickets
FORMER governor of Benue State and one-time Senate minority leader, Senator George Akume, immediate past deputy governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani and former tax boss in the state, Mrs Mimi Orubibi have won the APC tickets of Benue North West, Benue South and Benue North East senatorial districts respectively.
Akume emerged unopposed in the primary election held at Precious Event Center, Makurdi.
Lawani who emerged the party’s flag bearer at the primary held in Otukpo scored 1,321 to defeat Daniel Onjeh who polled 1,059 and Egboja who scored 21 votes.
Also, the former tax boss in the state won the APC primary held in Katsina Alla, headquarter of the senatorial district.
With the victory of Akume, he will slug it out with PDP candidate, Orker Jev in the 2019 elections.
Also, the tax amazon, Mrs Orubibi will battle with immediate former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam.
Chief Lawani is expected to slug it out with whoever that will emerge as PDP candidate from the ongoing PDP primaries for the zone in Makurdi.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for the Benue South senatorial district which could not hold due to some unresolved issues within the party in the zone has been rescheduled to take today in Makurdi.
Delegates from the nine LGAs that make up the Senatorial District have reconvened at the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi to commence voting.
The national committee who earlier returned to Makurdi from Otukpo yesterday with the electoral materials has now set the stage for the exercise.
As at the time of filing this report, PDP delegates are undergoing accreditation for the conduct of State Assembly, National Assembly and the Benue Senatorial primaries elections concurrently.
