Handle Dino Melaye with honour and dignity – Shehu Sani urges police

Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central has urged the police to handle his colleague, Senator Dino Melaye with respect and dignity, after he surrendered himself, a few hours ago.

Melaye, Kogi West district senator, is now in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force, after an eight-day siege on his residence in Abuja, over allegations of attempted murder on Sergeant Saliu Danjuma alongside his ‘thugs’.

Melaye, had stated earlier that he was not in his house, when the siege started but police said the siege will continue until the lawmaker availed himself for arrest and investigation. The lawmaker reportedly opened the door of his home around 3pm on Friday, after which he was then taken to the office of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Guzape.

According to reports, Melaye slumped to the floor in the presence of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators and police officers, upon opening the door.

However reacting to the report, via his twitter handle, Mr Shehu Sani asked that the lawmaker be treated with dignity and honour, now that he has surrendered.

Distinguished Senator Dino should be treated with dignity and honour and his fundamental rights respected, now that he has reportedly turned himself up to the Police.
