Nike unveils new Air Max 1’s that come with a grassy golf-inspired exterior

Nike has been a go-to name for many sports enthusiasts, including golf aficionados. And while the brand has produced some reliable sports gear in the past, we’re in a debate when it comes to the new Air Max 1 sneakers. Inspired by golf (quite literally), the shoes feature a grassy and rather shabby green exterior – the one element that makes it stand out and look weird all at once.

Although the Air Max 1s by itself is a great pair of shoes, it’s the new avatar of the sneakers that is raising some eyebrows amongst fashion devotees. Its golf-inspired edition showcases a rugged, grass-ready outsole with a turf-like exterior made of artificial grass. It is further complemented by matching green laces and a contrasting white Swoosh branding (both on the outside as well as inside). The shabby exterior of the shoe sits perched on a white midsole with visible Air cushioning at the heel and a gum rubber outsole for a firm grip.

As anticipated, social media has reacted in a mixed bag on the unveiling of the shoe, with one comment reading – “These look like shoes I would be so proud of when I was ten, but so embarrassed when I saw a picture of myself wearing them.” Another Twitter user also quipped, “Why would I want to play a gold shoe that makes you look like you are playing out of the rough!”. The Nike Air Max 1 golf-inspired edition retails for $140, just in case you’d like to own a pair!
