Police urges public to ignore text message on Osama's death
The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday in
Abuja urged citizens to disregard a text message posing a security
threat following the death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. A
statement signed by DCP Olusola Amore, force public relations officer,
said ``the attention of the Police
High Command has been drawn to SMS being circulated to mobile phones on
the need to be watchful as a result of a security threat following the
death of Osama bin Laden.
``The Nigeria Police, in conjunction
with other security agencies, have taken necessary steps to forestall
any breakdown of law and order across the country.'' The statement
admonished Nigerians to beware of rumour mongers who were attempting to
create panic and disorderliness in the country. It further advised
citizens to report any suspicious person, group or any movement to the
nearest police station.
