Taraba Deputy Governor Gets Impeachment Notice.
TARABA State lawmakers yesterday served the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Danladi, an impeachment notice.
Moving the motion for impeachment, Deputy Speaker of the House Of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah, representing Mbamnga Constituency, who was seconded by Mohammed Gwamko, representing Yorro Constituency, said it “is in line with Section 188 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which empowers members of the State House of Assembly to commence impeachment process for any public or political office holder found wanting in the discharge of his constitutional responsibilities”.
According to the impeachment notice, which was signed by 21 out of the 24 members in the House of Assembly, Danladi was alleged to have fraudulently diverted both the World Bank and Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) projects such as the motorised boreholes and multi–millionaire ICT Centre to the Yagai Academy, an educational institution owned by the deputy governor.
The lawmakers also accused him of willfully diverting the street lights meant for installation within Jalingo metropolis to his private school.
After serving the notice, the lawmakers adjourned sitting until October 22, 2012.
