South-South & South-East Governors Endorse President Jonathan For 2015.

Governors of the South-south and South-east geo-political zones have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for another term of office.

Rising from their meeting in Asaba, the Delta state capital, the governors said that their decision to endorse the president for a second term of four years in office was based on "his focused leadership" style and result-yielding transformation agenda.

The governors, who also passed a vote of confidence on Jonathan for his "bold steps' in confronting acts of terrorism wherever and whenever they occured, said the efforts of the president deserved the unwavering support of all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria alike.

They appealed to the law-abiding citizens to assist the government in stamping out terrorism and other evil acts in the country, expressing their happiness for the on-goingrehabilitation and modernisation of airports across the country.

They, however, called for the establishment of cargo airports and additional sea ports at Ibaka, Escravos and Agie, as well as the dredging of the Calabar Port.

Governors of the South-east that attended the meeting included Peter Obi of Anambra, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, Theodore Orji of Abia, Sullivan Chime of Enugu and Rochas Okorocha of Imo.

Similarly, governors of the South-south geo-political zone included Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, who hosted the meeting, Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom, while Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers was represented by his deputy, Tele Ikuru.

Chairman of the South-south Governors' Forum, Governor Imoke, who read the 12-point communiqué, said the achievements of the president were laudable, adding that they have strengthened democracy, stabilised the polity, grew the economy and improved the lives of the citizens.

Imoke reiterated that the meeting was geared towards the economic integration of the old Eastern and Midwestern regions, now known as the South-east and South-south geo-political zones of the country.

Part of the communiqué read: "The governors agreed on economic and political integration of the old Eastern and Midwest regions, now the South-south and South-east zones.

"The governors pledge to strengthen cooperation across board with particular focus on development of infrastructures linking the region, particularly federal roads and bridges.

"The governors also called on the federal government to rehabilitate all rail lines linking the states in the region, as well as embark on the construction of railway links between all states."

In his speech, the Chairman of South-east Governors' Forum, Peter Obi of Anambra state pleaded with all Nigerians to adopt dialogue to resolve issues affecting the country, noting that it was also resolved at the meeting to strengthen regional cooperation to stem the spate of kidnapping, arson and pipeline vandalisation in the two zones.
