David Beckam ,Zinedine Zidane,Abedi Pele And Other Football Legends Set To Storm Nigeria For "Legends Of Cancer International Football Match" Aimed At Kicking Cancer Out Of Nigeria.
Football legends like David Beckam, Zinedine Zidane, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo and others are expected to storm Abuja early December for the Ministry of Health-sponsored Legends for Cancer international football match aimed at kicking out cancer in Nigeria.
The organiser of the event, Fair-Play Sports International, is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in the programme, with arrangements already concluded to hold the game either at the Abuja National Stadium or the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos in December this year.
According to the event organiser, Jacob Onu, yesterday disclosed that, “We have approached many credible organisations to key into these efforts. In the first weekend of December 2013, soccer legends will be playing for the war against cancer.
“Legends of the game like Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham, Abedi Pele and Abdullahi Traore among others would confront the ex-Super Eagles of Nigeria stars. The venue will have to be either Abuja of Lagos.
“In order to deliver this noble assignment, we are collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and indeed the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, has approved our collaboration/support and even accepted to serve as one of the patrons.
“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has equally approved the concept. Other endorsements came from the chairman House of Representative Committee on Sports, Godfrey Ali Gaiya. The African Business Roundtable (ABR) has equally joined the army to actualise this fight against the scourge of cancer.
“To us, we can, we must and we only have one option: to kick cancer out of our society,” he noted.
Speaking earlier, Dr. O. J Amedu, who represented the Health Minister, said: “The ministry appreciated the efforts of international organisations, and NGOs like Fairplay Sports Agency in coming to aid of the fight against cancer by lending a hand to assist government efforts. It is my pleasure and honour to announce that the Minister has agreed to be patron of this intended exhibition football match while the department of hospital services of the health ministry would work closely with the organisers in order to achieve a successful outing.”
