Political Thugs Burn Down Residence Of Ukum Local Government Chairman Barr Teryima Nguher.

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have reportedly killed two persons and burnt down the residence of the council chairman of Ukum local government area of Benue State, Barrister Teryima Nguher.

No fewer than thirty other persons were injured in the process.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the ugly incident occurred at between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday night, at Kyado village of the area when the hoodlums numbering about fifteen stormed the community.

It was gathered that the thugs, armed with dangerous weapons including riffles and daggers, came to Kyado and started shooting sporadically in the air, disrupting relaxation spots before they finally set ablaze the private house of the council chairman.

It was learnt that the present attack  was a reprisal from the family relatives of the council chairman who had, early this year, accused the local government boss of sponsoring thugs to kill one of his younger brothers who owned  a private secondary school and beer parlour at Kyado village.

The state police commissioner, Mr. Adams Audu confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday and said that six persons were so far arrested in connection to crisis.

He said the mayhem was caused by a clash between two communities in the area.

According to Audu, men of the police command were drafted to the crisis area to maintain peace and prevent further attacks, saying investigation inti the crisis was ongoing.

However, the chairman of Ukum LGA, Mr. Teryima Nguher, described the unfortunate incident as "a deliberate attempt by some politicians in the area who are sponsoring the crisis."

He explained that "the hoodlums numbering about  fifteen, armed with riffles, came to Kyado and were shooting sporadically in the air. They headed straight to my house because they were after my life, but unfortunately, they could not find me."
