Residents of Kawuri village in Borno State on Tuesday informed the state Governor Kashim Shettima on a visit that they have so far buried 83 bodies from the deadly Boko Haram attack – and were still counting.
Shettima visited Kawuri village to commiserate with the people of the area following the deadly attack.Similarly, the death toll from the insurgents’ attack on a church in Chakawa village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State has also risen to 53.

Governor Shettima went round the terribly burnt down village for about three hours, held a brief meeting with the villagers and assured them of his government’s support and compensation to help them.
He ordered that N250,000 be given to each family who lost relatives in the attack and the trucks of food items brought to them be distributed to all affected persons at once.
Moreover, he ordered more security presence to be provided in the area, as the villagers said most of those that participated in the attack were young men from the village.
He went round Konduga General Hospital wards where the injured were hospitalized, to commiserate with them, directing that those with serious injuries should be transferred to the Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri.
Shettima, in an emotion-laden voice, condemned the attack saying, “Those who did this are never godly people; they are evil and blood-thirsty fellows.“Islam has never in any of its holy books sanctioned the killing of fellow beings; how can people who burn churches, mosques, kill innocent people including their own parents, be called Jihadists?” he asked.
Alhaji Ali Kaka Yale, Councillor of Kawuri village, Dala Lawan and Council Secretary of Konduga, told the governor that the total number of deaths has increased to 85, while the injured who are presently hospitalised are 46 in number.“We are still searching and have been burying corpses since Tuesday. The first burial was 53, but more corpses are still being picked in the bushes and some with serious injuries also died. We have just found two more corpses, which brings the death toll to 85 for now.”Some of the injured victims were taken to hospitals in Konduga, about 10km from Kawuri village.
