Fulani herdsmen murder Tiv cattle rearer as Tiv youths block Enugu-Makurdi Federal highway in protest

The Tiv-Fulani conflict continued to degenerate unabated as Fulani herdsmen have without resistance raided Tiv villages, dislodging most communities.

A Tiv blogger, Ati Terkula today reported that some Fulani herdsmen dressed in military uniforms stormed a suburb in Makurdi, killing a youth in the process.

According to him, youths took over the Federal Highway to protest the killing of the youth identified as Namaka.
Namakaa who is a cattle rearer for coordinator of Subsidy Reinvestment Programme, SURE-P in the state, Engr. Samuel Utoo, was killed in early hours of the day when he took the cattle which were 57 in number for grazing.
The incident which occurred opposite the permanent site of Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi generated anger among the youths of the community resulting in the blockade of the road.
Vehicles plying the route from the northern and south eastern axis of the country waited for more than six hours for the youths to remove the woods and tyres of vehicles they used in blocking the road before continuing with their journey.
According to Engr. Utoo, Namakaa had gone out as usual to graze the cattle before he was gruesomely murdered while the cattle were forcefully taken away by the assailants.
The youth leader of Apir community, Joseph Agera said their protest was to register their grievance and make government react to the seeming impunity by Fulani herdsmen who have been causing mayhem in the state.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the development but said the police was yet to make arrest.
