Security Aides Abandoned Me Few Minutes Before Attack – Suswam

Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam yesterday alleged that soldiers attached to him abandoned his convoy minutes before the attack against him by suspected Fulani militia.
Suswam stated this when the Governor of Nasarawa state, Alhaji Tanko Almakura paid him a sympathy visit at Government House, Makurdi over the gun attack.

A few days ago, Suswam narrowly escaped death when gunmen ambushed his convoy as he travelled to Gbajimba in Guma local government area of the state to assess the damage caused by the crisis.
However, Suswam told Almakura that the invaders were not herdsmen but terrorists bent on attacking the farmers for no good reason.
“My convoy had stopped at a village where six persons were killed and ten minutes after, the attack happened. The security operatives did say we should turn back but I insisted that as chief security officer, what would I be telling the people. They left me but I proceeded and insisted that we must go there and when we got there, the people were very happy because they have been cut off completely.” Suswam stated.
He urged the displaced persons to remain steadfast as “Benue and Nasarawa will evolve active measures and share intelligence to ensure that the crisis comes to end.”
