Cardinal John Onaiyekan Cautions President Jonathan Overy Calling Opposition & Critics BOKO HARAM.

According to The Nation, while speaking about the political insinuations surrounding the insurgency issue in the country, the cleric was quoted saying as he spoke on Rockcity 101.9 FM Abeokuta, Ogun State:

"The issue of the politicisation is very serious and dangerous, where the party in government sees anybody who doesn’t agree with them as the Boko Haramist that are out to destroy the nation. What this means is that, if you do not agree with me, or if you are not in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), you don’t love Nigeria…"

Onaiyekan stated that such attitude would not help to advance Nigeria and handle its current challenges. He claimed that disagreements between the parties don’t mean lack of love for the country. He also criticized the opposition over the same issue saying they consider themselves "the only ones who love Nigeria".

The cleric also lamented about Goodluck Jonathan’s information managers:

"When things are not going well, and if there is anything on which Nigerians are agreed, irrespective of political parties, it is that things are not going well. The only time I’ve heard that everything is perfect was recently on television, on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), when Okupe [Doyin Okupe, President's spokesperson - Naij.com] was telling HARDTALK that ‘everything in Nigeria is perfect’… When he was asked about the girls in the bush, he said: ‘Oh, don’t worry, they will soon come back.’ Who is he deceiving?"

It would be recalled that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been on numerous occasions involved in the security challenges clashes. Both parties accuse each other of sponsoring the dreaded Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram.

Two weeks ago the former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who had defected from APC to PDP, said Boko Haram is the armed wing of the APC. In the recent development the opposition party claimed that the PDP benefits from insurgency in the country.
