Benue Workers Suspend 5 Day Old Strike.| Suswam Suggests Downsizing Workforce Or Deducting Salaries As Solution To Crisis..

THE Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its five-day-old strike with immediate effect, to pave way for the resolution of crisis. Speaking on Tuesday, the state chairman of NLC, Mr Simon Anchaver, advised workers to go back to work today.

The state governor, Gabriel Suswam, had earlier brokered the four-hour meeting between the state government and the NLC aimed at resolving the strike embarked upon by workers in the state.

While governor Suswam led the state government team, the NLC was led by its chairman.

Anchaver noted that in order to fashion out the way forward, the joint meeting constituted a committee which would discuss issues raised by the NLC, even as government had agreed to maintain the status quo until the committee presents its report.

The committee, which comprises government and labour, has one month to submit its report.

The Nigerian Tribune learnt that during the meeting Suswam had told the NLC that there were only two options open either to deduct salaries of workers or to downsize the state workforce.
