Fresh Attacks By Fulani Herdsmen In Benue Claims 2 Lives.




Two women were this weekend killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen who also stabbed a young girl and raped her younger sister in Mbalagh ward of Makurdi Local Government area of Benue State.

Eyewitness told Sunday Newswatch that Mbalagh council ward has been deserted because of the incident and that the injured and raped girls have been hospitalised.

Coordinator of the Joint Civilian Task-force for the Restoration of Peace between Tiv and Fulani in Benue and Nasarawa states, Alhaji Aliyu Tashako, disclosed to our correspondent that one person has been arrested over the incident.

Tashako said members of his committee and the police have been looking for the rest of the suspects with a promise to restore peace in the area.

He appealed to herdsmen and farmers to peacefully coexist and warned that no act of criminality would be condoned.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ezeala, confirmed that one person was killed while two persons have been apprehended.

Ezeala said the matter was under investigation and that the area was calm.
