Rt. Hon Iorhemba:
I STEP ASIDE
I, Rt. Hon Dave Iorhemba, former Speaker, member BNHA and aspirant for governorship of Benue State for 2015 under the platform of our great party, the PDP, have weighed deeply the decision of the Tiv Traditional Council led by our revered paramount ruler, HRM Orchivirigh Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula, CFR, Tor Tiv IV and all the Uters, on the selection of 4 of my co-aspirants in a process all of us (of MINDA extraction) were fairly heard. In addition, I also considered the decision of the MINDA PDP Elders Forum that upheld the decision of the Tiv traditional council with just 1 alteration on the 4 selected aspirants. And having duly consulted with my leader, His Excellency, GT Suswam, PhD CON, the Senate President. Sen David Mark, GCON, and other stakeholders of our great party in Benue State, have decided to voluntarily step aside from the governorship race.
You may recall my antecedents in respect of similar decisions I have taken in the past. In 2002, I contested for the position of Member Benue State House of Assembly for Makurdi North constituency against the incumbent Rt. Hon Batholomew Orjime. The then leadership of our party decided that they preferred continuity and that the incumbent should be allowed to the house. I wholeheartedly accepted the decision of the party and withdrew from the race to support Hon. Orjime to win at the polls.
In 2011, in the 7th Assembly where I returned for the second time after the 2011 General elections, I expressed interest in the Speakership of the Benue state House of Assembly. Again, the party leadership preferred a higher ranking Member for the position, and I accepted to stand down my ambition. I canvassed for and nominated my brother Rt.Hon Terhemen Tarzoor on the floor of the Benue state House of Assembly and he emerged as the Speaker.
As a loyal party man, I will continue to support with every zeal and commitment, all party activities and accept and work with any candidate that our party will elect in the forthcoming PDP governorship primaries.
To my teeming supporters, I acknowledge your support, dedication, commitment and the pains you have taken in driving the DIVINE PROJECT 2015 message deep into the nooks and corners of Benue State, and appeal to you to remain calm and steadfast as I will soon address you on our next move and direction. In the meantime, we should strive to work hard for our party to emerge victorious at all levels of the forthcoming General Elections.
Thank you all.
Rt. Hon Dave Iorhemba
