Ambassador Chive Kaave: Fulfilling President Jonathan’s Marching Order On Foreign Investment.

Ambassador Chive Ioralumun Ignatius Kaave, a legal luminary, administrator, humanist, sports enthusiast and a consummate manager of men and materials is currently the Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, with concurrent accreditation to Peru, Chile and Paraguay.

Immediately after President Goodluck Jonathan presented letters of credence to 93 ambassadors in 2012, including Kaave, he gave them a marching order to protect Nigerians in their countries of posting as well attract more investment to Nigeria. Kaave immediately immersed himself in the nitty-gritty of diplomatic efforts, at a time other ambassadors were still trying to familiarise themselves with the task ahead of them.

He promptly fashioned out a blueprint of the methods and procedures to fast–track President Jonathan’s marching order. He hit the ground running and this in turn has enhanced and improved Nigeria’s bilateral and multi-lateral relations with Argentina, Peru, Chile and Paraguay.

Interestingly, Kaave, at the close of 2014, led a 15-man business delegation from Argentina and the neighbouring Latin American countries to Nigeria with the sole aim of scouting and exploring business and investments opportunities in Nigeria with regard to the understanding that from the ancient to the digital age, self sufficiency in food requirements has remained one of the first indicators of a country’s march to greatness. For most of the developed countries of the world, significant domestic production remains the precursor to industrialisation and technological advancement.

The delegation Ambassador Kaave led to the country at the close of 2014 comprised experienced businessmen in the following business and investment areas: Food processors especially in tubers like cassava and yam, rice farmers and processors, meat processors and promoters, poultry farmers and processor, wine and beverages promoters, fish farmers and promoters and refrigerators and cooling machine producers.

Kaave alongside the business delegation visited Benue and Osun States and also had discussions with Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State. Chief executives of key regulatory bodies in the country also played host to members of the business delegation. These included the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Investment Promotion Council, Mrs Saratu; Director General of NAFDAC, Mr Paul Orhii and the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, Abdullahi Dikko.

In fulfilment of this order to attract investments into the country and open up markets for local goods and services, Kaave during his visits to Benue State with members of the business delegation had interface and interactive business engagements with several private organisations, these include the international award winning Dajo Pottery, Miva Rice, Oracle Business Limited, Benue Brewery, among others. The focal point of the visit was to boost the agricultural potentials of the state popularly known as the food basket of the nation.

The areas of focus for business partnership between the Latin American business delegation led by Ambassador Kaave and Osun State included agricultural mechanisation, egg production, rice production, fish production, cassava processing, cooling storage and processing.

It would be recalled that in 2013, Kaave facilitated the visit of a high-powered trade mission to Nigeria which had a significant impact in promoting business relations and collaboration with Nigeria businessmen. Some of the crème de la creme organisations that visited the country then include De Blasi, a food processing company that has been working in the food processing field for more than 30 years , offering full solutions to the local and international market.

So far, the benefits of the alliances that Ambassador Kaave had initiated since he became Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina is beginning to yield fruit and help to strengthen bilateral and multi-lateral ties between Nigeria and Latin America, increase the level of trade, as well as open investment opportunities for investors, open new network, open up new markets, create employment and improve the welfare of the people.

Kaave’s diplomatic efforts have marked a milestone in diversifying the nation’s economy away from oil and opening up opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and manufacturing, among others in line with the transformational agenda of President Jonathan.
