NEMA Now Brands Relief Materials To Avoid Diversion.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has resorted to branding all its relief materials with the NEMA and logo imprinted on them to prevent some people taking them to the market for resale

The head, Abuja Operation Office of the agency, Mr Ishaya Chonoko, disclosed this in Abuja, during the distribution of relief materials worth several millions of Naira to victims of Boko Haram insurgents, who had relocated to Abuja.
According to him, it was discovered that some of the relief materials are being taken to the market to be resold by some of the beneficiaries, adding that the branding is now being carried out to discourage unwholesome practices
Apart from the branding of relief materials, he said NEMA is set to establish camps in Abuja as scores of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), from the North Eastern axis of Nigeria moved to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in search of peace .
Mr Chonoko said the idea of establishing camp was mooted to enable the agency know the IDPs they are dealing with and their exact number, claiming that some people who were not actually displaced persons were in the habit of presenting themselves as ones.
On the Durumi dustribution, Mr Chonoko said it was part of the government’s social responsibility to cater for those citizens in distress.
“These IDPs had lost everything they laboured for in life, and, they are now homeless and jobless, so government decided to come to their rescue with the aim of giving them succour,” he said.
