Payment Of Salaries Will Be Difficult– Gov Suswam

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has painted a gloomy picture for Nigerian workers in 2015.
The governor said that the falling oil price portends danger for the Federal Government and the 36 states of the federation, fearing that payment of salaries in the New Year by the two tier of government would be difficult.

Suswam stated this during the commissioning of Government House Chapel in Makurdi, the state capital yesterday. He said the country’s diminishing fortunes were caused by the reduction in the price of oil in the world market.

“Nobody will be able to pay salary in this country next year. The price of oil has reduced to $65 per barrel and it may still drop. Next year like I said is going to be terrible. The problem was not caused by President Goodluck Jonathan. It’s a global thing. America had problem and chose to reduce the price of its own oil which affected the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC Suswam said.

The governor urged those praying against him for his inability to pay three months’ salaries to desist from it because the problem was not peculiar to Benue State. He said some neighbouring states were paying only 30 percent of the monthly wage bill.

His administration, Suswam noted, was the highest paying government among the 19 states of the federation and urged the people to note that his government had been very friendly to the workers, to the extent that permanent secretaries who hitherto received N50,000 as monthly salary were being paid N450,000.

Governor Suswam also urged those who are aggrieved on the outcome of the recently concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primaries in the state to forgive his government since it was not possible to pick one person out of 18 aspirants without offending the others.
