President Jonathan To Commission 5 New 68 Seater,Air-ConditionedPassenger Coaches In Benue On Thursday.
All is now set for President Goodluck Jonathan to commission five new 68-seater air-conditioned passenger coaches delivered to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) on Thursday in Markurdi, Benue, these coaches were offloaded at Apapa Port, Lagos on Saturday 17th January, 2015.
Managing Director, NRC, Adeseyi Sijuwade said while taking journalists round the newly acquired rolling stock at the Ebute Metta worksyard of the corporation that the new coaches would be deployed to the Eastern Line to service Markurdi to Gombe.
Sijuwade promised the corporation's commitment to providing a rail service in which all Nigerians would be proud.
Also inspected were the newly acquired two 16-seater air-conditioned rail buses and 18 five seater motorised Trolleys.
Sijuwade said: "All these equipments are brand new, a development that necessitated the Corporation's team of engineers to embark on comprehensive testing of the coaches and other equipments preparatory to their deployment."
He said the latest addition brought to 11 the number of air-conditioned coaches in its fleet. Six had earlier in April 2014 been commissioned and deployed on the Western Line.
He said these rail vehicles were designed and manufactured in China, specifically for the Corporation's narrow gauge by CSR Nanjing Puzhen Company Ltd and Kintech Nigeria Ltd.
He said, "These newly acquired air-conditioned coaches were tested satisfactorily over the weekend in the corporation's Lagos workshops and I can confirm that they are perfectly okay for our use. They would be deployed for commissioning at Makurdi Railway Station on Thursday which would also signify the flagging off of the Makurdi to PortHarcourt intercity passenger service.
The corporation, Sijuwade said, can now extend train service from Markurdi to Gombe, passing through Lafia, Kafranchan, kuru, Jos, Bauchi with a spur line (branch out) from Kafranchan to Kaduna.
He said this would give the needed bite and efficiency to the Port Harcourt to Enugu intercity service flagged off by the Vice President Arc Namadi Sambo last December.
On the two rail buses, and the motorised trolleys, Sijuwade said they would be used by the inspectorate division of the corporation for the inspection of certain parts of the rail network.
"These are special purpose rail vehicles that are meant to shorten our response time to challenges on
our rail tracks or the signals and communication division," he said.
He described the motorised trolleys as a useful equipment for the maintenance department adding that they now come with more comfortable seats, wind visors and diesel propelled engines and a wagon that could be used to keep work tools by the track engineers.
He described the trolleys as a departure from the pumped trolleys used by the corporation in the past, adding that with this there would be more regular maintenance of the tracks which would reduce the bottlenecks of train passengers.
He expressed the corporation's commitment to innovate change that would bring the railway abreast with global competitiveness.

Bullshit......
Too late Mr president
In as much as i commend the efforts of mr president in ensuring thet the railway system is revived,i think he should take a look at the issue of salaries in Benue state.....if this is not done then am afraid Benue will vote MASSIVELY for APC.the level of poverty in the state is alarming,6 months without salaries, this is heartless of Gov Suswam.
Jonathan ,this is coming rather late, people have made up their minds about you.besides where are the raillines ,what we have in Benue cannot take these coaches please.
Rubbish....arrant nonsense...we dont need it.
That's what they know us for...I bet his men on the ground have given him 'Clues' on how to pocket Benue...Not good enough. All those, that plotted this conspired deceit should tell us if the coaches belong to Benue state or will serve Benue more than other states, if not why are they being commissioned here and now when the station has not caught their attention in donkey years.
I tell you what they should have planned and commissioned, a dialysis centre for treatment of complicated diabetes, knowing we have a high occurrence rate in Benue due to our diet. Then our health can be improved, we can even invest a market-oriented affiliate that will charge higher rates and quick turnaround for non-Benue indigenes. The average going for one dialysis session is 170,000- 200,000NGN. ..Common good delivery is no magic...just focus.
Why must our people plot in making us look stupid...self before community, a classic PDP model
Just to put in context Mimi, this is ordinarily progress in some ways, but the timing and way a project is framed and delivered is what I have issues with. Same with the way knowledge is framed to advance certain agendas and responses. International NGOs do it when they put out images of African children with flies on their faces, charity donations at the price of indignity.
U guys just throw comments around so stupidly that you don't even mind if logic is stabbed on its head. If he is commissioning railway system now, did that rehabilitation start last month? A project that will not take less than 12months. And you are here saying it is too late. Foolish comments ever.
But come to think of it,has this man completed what he started ?.Why are Nigerians this mediocritic ?.
Buhari isn't any better either, you all clamour for him as if he is gonna change or turn Nigeria around overnight.GEJ is not the first president of this country when Nigeria has been long before now plunged into a dark furnace.Blame the woes on the past heads not vividly the present.
The good thing is that he has initiated some commendable projects of which requires completion hence its all about tax payers funds.Every other public office holder signs up for two tenures .Jonathan is working Nigerians..
Our minds are already made up mr. President. You only cone to our state when you need our votes. You will not come again becoz you will be voted out.
