Benue Senators Retain Their Seats At The Red Chambers.




The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the results for all elections in Benue State,and all the 3 Senators retained their seats at the National Assembly.



From the Benue South Senatorial district,
According to the Returning Officer,Senator David Mark (PDP)pulled a total of 99, 538 while Onjeh scored 50, 115 votes.

Mark has been in the senate for about 16 years since 1999.

He spent 8 years in the senate as a floor member and another 8 years as Senate President.
Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam, lost his bid to represent Benue Zone ‘A’ in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly as he was floored by incumbent Senator, Chief Barnabas Gemade.

Gemade, an All Progressives Congress member, scored 140,715 votes to beat Suswam.
Suswam, who was the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, scored 118,608 votes to lose in his ambition to occupy the senate seat.

Interestingly, Gemade defected to APC some few weeks before the commencement of the general elections after he failed in his bid to retain his PDP ticket, which was handed to Gov. Suswam.

The announcement of Gemade as validly elected Monday morning by the Returning Officer for the zone, Prof. Mohammed Adah, put to rest the conflicting accounts since Saturday over which of the two politicians won the election.



The Senate Minority Leader, Dr. George Akume of APC was also  returned for a 3 term.

In the result announced at INEC office, Makurdi by 2am on Tuesday, Senator Akume pulled a total of 168,806 to defeat his closest rival and traditional political opponent, Hon. Mike Mku of PDP who recorded 110,180 votes
