Buruku People Protest Nomination Of Caretaker Committee, Commissioner Nomines.
The people of Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State yesterday besieged the Makurdi residence of the Benue State leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Dr. George Akume, protesting the alleged manipulation of the Caretaker Committee list and commissionership nominee earlier submitted to the state leadership of the party by stakeholders from the area.
In a letter of protest addressed to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom through Senator George Akume, the Buruku APC chapter made a strong case for Hon. Godwin Terhemba Iorsue as caretaker committee chairman and rejected the nomination of one Hon. Sekav Iortyom as commissioner nominee.
They said Hon. Sekav is not academically qualified to occupy the position of commissioner, aside the fact that he allegedly joined forces with the PDP to fight APC sometimes last year.
According to them, the list of caretaker committee members earlier nominated by the APC caucus from Buruku should be retained while vehemently rejecting the nomination of Sekav Iortyom for appointment as commissioner.
Leader of the protesters, elder Choonkor Takpi, who handed the petition to Senator George AKume alleged that PDP card carrying members were behind the counter nominations.
Receiving the protest letter, Sen. George Akume assured the protesters that he was going to look into their problems with a view to prospering solutions to them.
He noted that he and the party leadership directed that chairmanship candidates of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the 2012 council election, who did not defect to other political parties be considered for appointment as caretaker chairmen, stressing that Hon. Iorsue’s case cannot be different.
Sen. Akume promised to go through the petition and get back to them for solution.
The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions such as “give us Hon. Godwin Iorsue as Caretaker Chairman,” “Buruku Insists on Iorsue,” “Buruku Reject Hon. Sekav,” “Sen. Akume, our leader, who is your eyes in Buruku?” among others, chanted “we no go gree, we no go gree” as they protested.www.fabmimi.com
