BSU SUG President Accuses Governor Ortom Of Sending Thugs To Beat Him Up.

Thugs yesterday in Makurdi attacked the SUG President of BSU Mr Bobby Tarvershima during a peaceful meeting with students on the ongoing strike action. The thugs claimed they were sent by the Governor Dr Samuel Ortom.

Speaking to Benue.com.ng , the president narrated that the incident took place while he was trying to rally students together in order to meet and issue out a communique to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU who have been on strike to reconsider their stance.

“You know the government is paying and we wanted to come together to draw up a communique to ASUU, begging them to help stop this problem of strike. I sent out a text and it had nothing to do with protest.”

He emphasized that the purpose of the meeting wasn’t a protest and had made this known to all concerned the previous day, including the state security services, SSS, police and school security.

On getting to school the next morning, one by the name “Sunny”, a graduate of political science from BSU, along with the National President of the Community of Tiv Students, CTS, Emmanuel Nor and two others drove into the university to disrupt the meeting.

“By the time I was talking the them, the CTS president just came in and was shouting, calling me names. Said look at me, that why am I calling a meeting when we know very well that the security of the people are not guaranteed.”

“Before I knew, he slapped me, and slapped me for the second time and pushed me to the ground. The students now rushed in and the whole atmosphere became tensed up. Students were not happy, staff too were not happy.”

“They even said it is the Governor that sent them” He said.

He said if not for the intervention of the school security to send the intruders away, the outcome would have been different. The intended meeting just like the attack, ended abruptly as the students couldn’t go on because of the embarrassment suffered by their President.

Even though he didn’t sustain any visible injuries, Bobby said he was feeling some pains but had taken some medications.

The matter has since been communicated to the SSS and school security but the president appealed to the Governor to investigate and come clean, most especially as the attackers claimed they were acting on his commands.

The state government has not issued any statement on this.
